River Limmat and Zurich

Zurich

Photographs of Zurich, Switzerland, Summer 2001 by Martin Sullivan (22 pictures, 629KBytes, approximately 4.5 minutes download time at typical modem rates, 2.5K/s). This is the second of two chunks.

This is Stuff, off-topic and possibly ephemeral.

[Picture: Waterfront, Church spire]Limmat waterfront houses and Fraumüster spire.

[Picture: Zurich city scape]
ETH from Lindenhof. The ETH (from the Swiss German for Federal Technical High School) is a Science and Technical University and famously, Pascal was invented there (as well as other things such as Indigo).

[Picture: River, church spires]
The river (Limmat) looking from Bahnhof bridge toward Lindenhof and St. Peterkirche.
[Picture: Grosser Münster]
Grosser Münster is the larger of the two Münster in Zurich. The twin spires seem to be the most photographed and it is claimed that it was founded by Charlemagne (but he did get about a bit).
[Picture: Church spire]
St Peter's Church spire and clock face. According to guide books the clock face is the largest in Europe.
[Picture: Street]
Augustiner Gasse. The area around Lindenhof is the older part of town. Augustiner Gasse is the one with the fashionable shops.
[Picture: Sunset]
Sunset over Zurich HB.
[Picture: Floral Clock]
Floral clock in Bürkli Platz. Bürkli Platz is at the lake end of Bahnhof Strasse and is home to the Lake ferry terminal.
[Picture: Canal]
Schanzen Graben. This I understand was a defensive ditch, but is now a leisure and pleasure boat canal.
[Picture: Train station]
Zurich HB. Anyway the contract in Zurich is over (and the fun I had getting back to Blighty with Swiss Air hitting the ground). This is an all to familiar view taken as I waited for the train to the airport.
