Open OLTP News
ZOIS has been involved with a number of TPM over the
years. Here's a swift, a very swift introduction to them.
Transaction Processing Monitors (TPM) are the computer systems that do OLTP. Here are some reviews of the popular ones that we've been involved in (with some sample source code). The order is alphabetic, we've tried to be vendor neutral in true open style.
For historical interest we've also some info on the late lamented
NCR TPM, Top End and Transarc's once inovative Encina.
Source Code Caveates
Some of the above pages contain examples of the programming
interface for the particular TPM. These examples are designed as
illustrations only of one of a number of ways of
doing things with that TPM. There are usually a few. Since the
examples have been coded with illustration in mind they will not
work as is. If you want to, you can do some further coding to make
them workable. If you do so, then proceed to blow up that vital
file, your company's most important database, or indeed the whole
planet, then it's not our fault. Check out our views on Copyright
on this stuff too.
